Giving youth pastors the tools they need to make and shape disciples.

Your Audience Will Adjust

I heard this quote from Gary Vaynerchuk and it made me think, and I paraphrase,

“If you don’t want to deliver to your audience and you’d rather watch Netflix, take time off, not make content, your audience will adjust.”

This, among other things, keeps me bringing you content every week on my blog, on my Youtube channel, on this podcast, because I know something else, another podcast, video, etc. could pop up in your algorithm that could lead you away from my content and into someone else’s.

If I am not going to deliver, someone else will.

Now, let’s apply this to your youth ministry.

  • If you don’t want to prepare someone else will.
  • If you don’t want to engage, someone else will.
  • If you don’t want to create, someone else will.

and your audience, your students will adjust.

  • They will find somewhere else to go.
  • They will have someone else mentor them.
  • They will find another group.

This is not to say you shouldn’t take time to breath or relax.

What I am saying is, as churches and youth ministries decline, your options are limited if you

want to keep your youth ministry active and growing.

I can’t afford not to

  • post
  • engage
  • make a phone call
  • send a text
  • create the best I can

This is a luxury for someone else, but not me.

Keep this in mind when you “don’t feel like it”

Your audience will adjust.

In the previous posts I shared how the different ways students could graduate. Now, the gate has been narrowed. Most states offer some sort of exit exam. What is the point of an exit exam?

“to make sure no students graduate or move on to other courses without proving they have mastered what they have studied.”

This begs the question “Have our students mastered what they have studied?” Never mind mastering what have studies, but what have they studied? How do we know if a student is ready to leave our youth ministry?
