Yes, only four words holding back your youth ministry or nay ministry. Ready for them?

“It’s too much work”
Now, there are others like,
“That costs too much”
“I don’t have time” and
“I’m not good enough”
I don’t want to ever phone in my work. I want every post, every message series I write, and every message I preach to be from a place of hunger. I want to be hungry for souls, change, and renewal of lives, especially my own.
Remember what happened to Rocky in Rocky III? Mick told Rocky the truth about why he had no shot at winning vs Clubber Lang, “You got civilized”. Have we lost the eye of the tiger?
This is a message to myself. If it resonates with you that’s great, but I refuse to bow to any four word phrase that could minimize, blunt, or sabotage the gospel’s impact through our youth ministry and through my own personal life.
What do I have to do stop this?
1. Take every though captive 2 Corinthians 10:5
I cannot dwell on thoughts of how to make my life easier or gospel more palatable. I cannot plot, plan, or scheme a way to take “the easy fights” like Mick set up for Rocky.
2. Stop talking like I am already defeated
Proverbs 18:7 says ” The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives.” Is it possible that we are the ones poisoning our own wells with our very words.
3. Stop filling up on junk
Why I am I not hungry? Too much junk. You can’t be full of the world and hungry for God. When we change our spiritual diet we hunger again for what we didn’t even know was missing in the first place.
It’s time to get hungry again for the God alone who satisfies our hunger (Matthew 5:6)
