Crawling Out Of That Hole You’re In

There are no good holes are there? I mean, look at the all the bad holes there are: pot holes, sink holes, and black holes, none of which we would want to fall into. Consider the phrases we use, like, “I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die.”. or ” I wish the ground would just open up and swallow me.” Kind of like this guy felt.

I crawled in hole, from embarrassment, about a week ago. I received some well justified criticism  about something I wrote and I thought to myself, “How bad could it be?” Upon further review, it was worse than I thought. I am in the midst of correcting my well intentioned mistakes, but the decision to leave the hole is more difficult than I thought. I haven’t even responded to the criticism I received; I’ve been too busy obsessing over the mistake(s) I made and how I could have possibly made them in the first place.

Are there any good holes? Yes, the holes you crawl out of. The hole takes on a new persona when we crawl out if it, into the daylight, ready to face another challenge. The hole is a villain, a foe we defeated if have the courage to leave it or allow ourselves to be rescued from it. We cheered decades ago when “baby Jessica” was rescued from a well she fell into. We also watched, waited, and cheered when Chilean miners were rescued from the hole they were trapped in.

Are you in a hole? Be assured there is rescue in operation in the works. God does not let his children stay in holes (if they do not want to). In scripture, the term hole is referred to as a pit.  David said, in Psalm 40

I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.

Holes don’t have to last forever.

Are you trying to get out or has it become too comfy?

What do you do when you find yourself in hole? (Hint: Stop digging)
