And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord

According to a poll by The Barna Group in 2014, here are 5 popular beliefs people have about Jesus Christ

1. Jesus was a real person

2. Younger Generations Are Increasingly Less Likely to Believe Jesus Was God

3. Americans Are Divided on Whether Jesus Was Sinless

4. Most Americans Say They Have Made a Commitment to Jesus Christ

5. People Are Conflicted between “Jesus” and “Good Deeds” as the Way to Heaven

As you can see by the world we live in there’s a disconnect (especially around #4) between what people think about Jesus and how people live. Saying I believe in Jesus, to many, is like saying I believe in gravity. It’s there, I interact with it daily, but I don’t give it a lot of thought. Take a moment and ask yourself, “What do I believe about Jesus Christ?”

I think many people really do believe in Jesus, but so does the devil and he’s not going to heaven. I believe the difference comes in the two words Our Lord. Jesus was not just a teacher, He was God. The disciples did not just listen to Jesus but did what he said. Our actions, by faith, reflect what we believe about Jesus and whether we believe He is like any other teacher or He’s someone we build our lives on and around.

Scriptures

 John 14:1

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
 John 6:29

Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
 Luke 6:46

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,
 Colossians 1:19

Questions

Do I believe Jesus was God?

If yes, do I believe Jesus is worth committing my life to?

Does what I believe about Jesus Christ reflect in my everyday life?

Prayer

Jesus, I believe you were not only God’s son but God incarnate. You came to earth to not only die for my sins but to reveal yourself to humanity and show us how to live. Jesus, I believe you are the Lord but I want to make you MY Lord, MY Master. Be Lord over my soul, my emotions, my finances, my family, my work, and my thoughts.

Amen.
