Youth Pastor, Here’s How To Plan Your Perfect Week

2 · 20 · 25

At the beginning of the year I designated each day of the week (M-F) to focus on one thing because Practical PKM suggested it would change how I work. So, here is how I allotted my days,

Monday is Writing Day where I blog or post on social

Tuesday is Audio Day when I record my podcast

Wednesday is Grow Day where I dive deep into something (book, topic, etc.)

Thursday is Video Day where I record video for my Youtube channel

Friday is Fun Day where I go to the movies, go out to eat at a favorite

I call this stacking my week or stacking the deck, as in gambling, where I prepare the outcome before I ever draw a card.

This isn’t legalism, it doesn’t mean that I don’t record video on a Tuesday if I have to or do something fun on a Monday because I can.

My goal, as practical PKM says,

“When you plan your perfect week, you’re identifying what modes you’ll be in.”

By assigning days and times to certain modes, I am planning MY perfect week because my schedule builds from one day to another making the next day easier and increases my chances of being the most productive I can be.

What would your perfect week look like? Here’s a sample any youth pastor could use

Monday is Message Prep Day (sets the pace and you can build off of this)

Tuesday is Media Day (make media (videos, graphics, etc.) to invite or announce the message, also text students, etc.)

Wednesday is Parent Connect Day (send out a newsletter, announcements, etc. and this way you get to share with/remind parents what the meeting is about)

Thursday is Sabbath Day (Do your best to rest, think, pray, rejoice)

Friday is Dream Day (start dreaming about next week’s message or what you want to put in the newsletter to parents, etc.)

As I said, this is sample and the goal is to stack your weak in a way where you can build off the previous day resulting in greater momentum and increased productivity.

You’re week will never be perfect due to interruptions and emergencies, but if you know what your days are for, it’s easier to get back into the groove.
