I recently did a Facebook live on my way to work and thought I’d share it with you for some motivation if you are bi-vocational, in transition or full time and struggling.
I took a job at Jimmy John’s delivering sandwiches and have felt, on occasion, that I was less than because of the jobs I had to take to pay bills, etc. When you’ve been a youth pastor as long as I was, everything else feels less important and less life giving.
In the video I referenced 2 Timothy 1:16 “May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.” I thought the verse was Paul speaking of himself, but it was Paul speaking of Onesiphorus
Paul was not ashamed of his chains, because he wasn’t ashamed of the gospel. But neither was Onesiphorus ashamed of Paul. Also, in no way am I comparing my hardship to Paul’s. My “chains” are metaphorical, his were the real deal.
My point to the video was, never be ashamed of what you have to go through to get where you’re going. Thanks to all you Onesiphoruses who are not ashamed of an old Jimmy Johns driver doing his best to equip youth workers like you. Thanks for being a part of my journey.
