Giving youth pastors the tools they need to make and shape disciples.

You Can’t Train It Out Of Them Or Into Them

Chuck Todd said it right this morning on Morning Joe  concerning the training of police officers “How do you train racism and bigotry out of someone’s heart? “

The answer is: you don’t.

The answer is the same for everyone, police officers,  parents,, teachers, and youth pastors: We don’t need more training, we need more pure light moments.

You can’t convince someone into believing  that other people matter.

Change of heart requires a revelation, an epiphany.

Jesus could not train his own disciples out of immoral behavior.

Jesus told Peter “You will deny me”  Peter argued back “I will not”.

Who Peter was came to the forefront when the cock crowed. Revelation.

Jesus knew Peter would not believe Him until he saw his own wickedness.

It took a bright light, a loud voice, and  lack of sight to make the Apostle Paul realize he was on the wrong side.

Paul said later,

You can’t train love respect, character, ethics or faithfulness into people.

You also cannot train hate, bigotry, laziness, or sinfulness out of people.

Change requires revelation, a move of the Spirt to reveal our wickedness and then we must choose the evil that is revealed in us or succumb to the Spirit who draws us to become who He intended us to be.

My hope is that each tragedy, Dallas, Ferguson, Alton Sterling, Philander Castile,  puts us into position to receive revelation and, ultimately, a change of heart and life.
