The Church We Are Looking For Doesn’t Exist

AntiChurch

If we are looking for

A church without conflict

A church without Pharisees

A church without hypocrites

A church without money issues

A church without weird people

Sorry, it doesn’t exist and never has, but it will, someday.

The church is always in process because people are always in process.

The Apostle Paul says,

“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.”

I am always surprised when church people say things like “The church should do this..the church should do that”. I have to remind them that what they are they are really saying is “I should do this , become this, serve here, etc.”. The church, to some, is some “other” organization that they are seem not to be a part of but they want full benefits from. It seems like many churches, ones I have been a part of,  like busyness but shun maturity.

If you come to our church, let me apologize in advance that we are not the perfect church you are looking for but we are the church that is maturing it’s way to the fullness of Christ, and it is starting with me. I am maturing in Christ through crisis, suffering, and conflict as well as prayer, service, and loving others. To paraphrase Ghandi, I can only hope for the mature church I want by becoming the mature believer I should be and teach others the same.

Your Turn

Why do people continue to sacrifice the good church in favor of  looking for “the perfect church”?
