Loki Episode Two: Making Sense of It All

6 · 17 · 21

In episode two of Loki, Mobius and Loki have a heart to heart about their existence. They sound like two people of different religions comparing notes, each fully convinced that what they believe is true and what the other is saying is completely crazy. Here’s a snippet of their conversation.

Loki: You really believe in all this stuff?

Mobius: I don’t get hung up on believe or not believe, I just accept what is.

Loki: Three magic lizards created the TVA and everyone in it, including you?

Mobius: Who created you?

Loki: Frost Giant of Jotunheim.

Mobius: Who raised you?

Loki: Odin of Asgard.

Mobius: If you think too hard about where any of us came from, who we truly are, it sounds kind of ridiculous. Existence is chaos nothing makes any sense and we try to make sense of it.

Like Loki and Mobius sharing their faith narrative, you also have a faith narrative. Maybe you’re like Mobius, you don’t think too hard, you just accept what is.

If you are of the Christian faith you most likely believe in

  • the virgin birth
  • miracles
  • Jesus dying for the sins of the world
  • Jesus rising from the dead
  • Jesus returning (at some point) to bring us to be with Him forever.

It’s not three lizards, but if you say this out loud, it does sound crazy, but crazy isn’t the same as untrue.

Mobius has never met the three Lizards. I have had many encounters with God. Yes, that’s subjective but unlike Mobius who later on says,

It’s real because I believe it’s real.

Mobius, Loki

my faith isn’t blind, it’s based on history, science and yes, faith, but an informed faith.

Religion is not just a man made structure to make sense of our existence, it is the foundation by which faith can be launched.

Faith is the beginning ingredient to encountering God, not once, but all the time

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Hebrews 11:1-3

and verse 6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to himmust believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Mobius is a faithful believer. He believes in the cause which created him. I commend him for sharing his faith with Loki.

You also were created with a cause, a purpose and that is to know God, you’re creator. The Apostle Paul said,

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

Acts 17:26,27

Seek Him, reach out for Him and by faith, you will find Him.
